TL;DR: Grass grew nicely, but the dirt quickly became slimy after watering as instructed. Instructions were clear and easy to follow, but seemed to create a mess for me where similar products have not. Product did not last very long before growing mold. 2 stars just in case it was partially my fault (but I kind of doubt it) and because the grass grew quickly.--------------------I thought I'd try this product because my dogs love eating grass outside. I know she likes rye and barley grass because I've purchased a couple of those pet grass kits in the past, and wheat grass seemed like a popular choice on amazon, so I selected this product. It looked simpler and easier than the alternatives. I got the wheat grass variety here, and I also got the variety blend of the same product (The variety blend was a disaster, but that's a story for another review). The instructions were simple enough - poke 10 holes in the bottom, mix in seeds, set the bag on a large dish, then add a cup of water. I was concerned about adding that much water. I measured out 1 cup and it seemed like way too much for such a small bag of dirt, but I don't know much about growing plants, so I just followed the instructions. Sure enough, most of the water slowly made its way out of the holes that I had poked in the bottom of the bag, and the dish that I had set up under the wheatgrass bag was up to the brim with dirty water. It had to be cleaned up with a lot of paper towels because there was no way to pick it up without dark dirt-water spilling everywhere.[It's worth noting at this point that I had now set up both this product (wheatgrass) and its other variation (variety blend grass) on the same plate to grow in the windowsill with the best sunlight. It is possible that the details in this next paragraph were solely a result of the variety-blend product, but it seemed to me that it was happening with both of them.]I used much less water in each watering thereafter, but some water always made it through and onto the plate. It's fine that some water drained out (that's the whole point of the holes at the bottom, after all), but in less than a week, the water draining through had accumulated some kind of congealed slime similar in texture to gelatin. I had to rinse that out a few times before it eventually stopped happening. After a week or so, the wheatgrass had grown tall enough to trim and give to my dogs and cat. The cat nibbled on it but was largely uninterested. The dogs ate it gradually, but they never really seemed to want it. I don't think I should fault the product for that, as the grass seemed bright and healthy. I guess it's just a matter of preference for each animal, and my dogs just prefer rye and barley grass. After a few weeks, the wheatgrass was still growing well, but I noticed that the soil had some kind of glaze over it and stems and bag corners had developed what seemed to be cobweb-mold. Small flies/gnats had also begun to take an interest in the bag, so I threw it out. I'm not sure exactly how long this product is supposed to last, but the slime and apparent mold becoming a problem so quickly, all while following the instructions closely, was very disappointing. Maybe I could have done things better if I knew more about plant-growing, but I think it's fair to pass the blame on to the product in this case, since the instructions were clearly written and did not yield good results when followed, from my perspective, quite closely.Very easy to grow and my dog really enjoys itI got this for my two female guinea pigs (both about a year and a half old). They absolutely loved the grass, and loved the taste. However, the reason I took of stars is because of the packaging (the "pot" that holds the grass itself). This is not designed to hold much water at all, mine started smelling awful, because the packaging/pot itself was rotting (so was the label on the outside). I thought that I could just transfer it to an actual pot, but the smell was so terrible, I cut all of the grass off, stored it in a bag in the fridge, and tossed the rotting packaging/pot. A brilliant idea, but I would just get this and remove the seeds and soil from the bag, and put it in an actual pot, or just spend about 99 cents on some wheatgrass seeds, and plant it in a pot. Or, be very, very careful watering it.Easy to set up, quick to grow. Our dogs loved it.I have not grown this yet, but saw many positive reviews so I thought I would give it a try. The package shipped quickly and was a larger amount than expected. Once I grow out the pet grass I will have to cone back and update my reviewI didn't use the bag for a planter, I planted in a plastic tub to put on the catio. Enough seeds for at least one more planting when they eat these greens! They were sprouting in THREE DAYS!! So easy to grow. Highly recommendedI love this grass, also my dogs love it. It was delivered the 19th, I planted it the same day. My dogs has been eating from it for 3 days now and I see a big difference in them. I will order more but a bigger supply. Follow directions very easy to grow. These things grow like crazy! All the dogs seem to love it and hope to get more to plant outside to get them to stop eating the regular grass.
